House of the Dragon is HBO’s newest series whose creation process has involved a huge crew and talented cast. One of them is Miguel Sapochnik, who previously directed Game of Thrones. In this prequel series, he again acts as a showrunner who worked on a number of episodes. Including the premiere episode of ‘The Heirs of the Dragon’ which has managed to break the viewing record on the HBO streaming channel.
In House of the Dragon itself Sapochnik has teamed up with series creator George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, for about two years. They spent quite a long time developing and producing the series until it finally became what it is today. Where House of the Dragon has aired its first two episodes and managed to again attract the attention of fans who want to dive into the story of Dance of the Dragon aka the Targaryen civil war.
Sapochnik Decides To Leave House of the Dragon
Unfortunately, after spending time with the creators, Sapochnik recently announced that he has left the House of the Dragon series. The news was first delivered by The Hollywood Reporter, which also revealed that the series has found another GOT veteran, Alan Taylor, to replace Sapochnik as director of the next season. Listen to Sapochnik’s full account below:
“Working on the Thrones universe over the past few years has been a matter of pride and privilege for me. Especially for the last two years with the amazing cast and crew of House of the Dragon. I am very happy with the achievements of season 1 and also the pleasant reaction from the audience. Although it was difficult to decide to leave, I knew this was the right decision for me. However, when I did, I was also very comforted to know that Alan would be joining. I wish Ryan [Condal] and his team every success, as well as season 2 and beyond.”
HBO itself recently announced that the House of the Dragon series will continue with a second season. Although Sapochnik’s departure was quite heavy, the inclusion of Alan Taylor has been a breath of fresh air for the fans. Because Taylor is also a veteran director of Game of Thrones, just like Sapochnik. So, even if Sapochnik leaves, the second season will still run with a new director. Before seeing his work in season 2 later, at this time we can first watch the House of the Dragon season 1 series which is currently airing on the HBO streaming channel.
