The Conjuring 2 is a supernatural horror film that was released in 2016. The film itself highlights the events of The Enfield Case in 1977, where a young girl has been possessed by a sinister demon. As a result of this phenomenon, a psychic as well as a husband and wife, Ed Warren, and Lorraine Warren, decided to investigate the case. The film stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Frances O’Connor, Madison Wolfe, Simon McBurney, and Franka Potente.
Apart from them, Bonnie Aarons appears to steal the show because she plays a nun, and is also a demonic figure known as Valak. In The Conjuring 2, Valak is the root cause of all the spooky events in Enfield. Because it managed to attract the attention of many people, Valak’s solo film entitled The Nun (2018) was finally made, and the film again featured Aarons as Valak.
Valak’s Initial Design in Conjuring 2
Although the appearance of Valak has been embedded in the Conjuring universe, it turns out that this demon figure previously had a different design from what we have seen today. Recently in a personal Instagram post by James Wan, director of The Conjuring 2, he showed off a behind-the-scenes look at Valak on set, played by the film’s composer Joseph Bishara.
Wan went on to explain in his post that during post-production, he felt that the original Valak designs looked majestic, and epic. However, he thought that the design would not fit into the Conjuring franchise he was building. She also added that she needed something more down to earth, more sinister, and thus the demonic nun was born.
Wan’s decision to change Valak’s original design with the current figure is a wise move. Not without reason, the demon nun who has appeared terrible has managed to gain popularity, and looks iconic among fans. Valak will certainly come back to terrorize us all in the second sequel later. If there are no obstacles, the sequel to The Nun will be released in 2023.
