War Machine is one of the famous Marvel superheroes who often wear armor similar to Tony Stark aka Iron Man. This can happen because from the start he was a friend of Tony’s named James Rhodes. The same thing happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he got his own armor in the movie Iron Man 2. Precisely when helping Iron Man against the villains Whiplash and Justin Hammer. Now, in Tony’s absence, many are hoping he could be his successor.
Since the last time Tony made a heroic sacrifice at the end of Avengers: Endgame, fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a replacement for Iron Man in the MCU. One of the candidates is Rhodey who is already used to wearing armor when in action. On the other hand, he is also a friend who is very familiar with Tony’s values and has a military background. So he is quite worthy to replace his position. Unfortunately, as Rhodey, Don Cheadle did not agree with this.
Cheadle Feels Rhodey Stands Up For Himself
Recently, during an interview at the D23 Expo, Cheadle spoke to extratv about his character’s future in the MCU. Although he did not clearly explain the fate of the character Rhodey aka War Machine in the MCU in the future, but he felt that his character would not be a substitute for Iron Man. Because according to him no one can replace Iron Man, and Rhodey will be himself.
“I do not know. I think Rhodey is himself [don’t want to be someone else]. No one can fill Tony Stark’s ‘shoe’,” said Cheadle. “Instead I feel we will get to know more about Rhodey’s wishes. Who exactly is he and what will his place in the MCU be like? Honestly, I’m just as clueless as you are.”
If not Rhodey aka War Machine, then who will replace Iron Man in the MCU? Only time can answer that. At the D23 event some time ago it was revealed that the War Machine solo series entitled Armor Wars would soon start production next year. While waiting for the series to air, Rhodey’s character himself will appear first in the Secret Invasion series which will be released in spring 2023.
